Review - Founders Brewing Company's Breakfast Stout
"You've got to love coffee to truly appreciate this phenomenal brew. Brewed with an abundance of flaked oats, bitter and sweetened imported chocolates, Sumatra and Kona coffee. We’re actually not sure if this is some type of coffee cake or a beer. Either way you can drink this ale with a fork. Breakfast Stout has an intense fresh roasted coffee nose toped with a cinnamon colored frothy head that seems to never fade and makes you wish breakfast could last forever." --Founders Brewing Company
Pours a super rich dark brown color producing an expanding, healthy light brown head with a creamy texture. Excellent retention, thin sticky rings of lacing. Body is completely opaque. The chocolate and milky aroma is dominant in the Founders Breakfast Stout. The aroma is loaded with coffee, oats, and slightly roasted malts. The milky presence creates a creamy milky-way galaxy. Initial taste is moderately sweet with notes of creamy milk chocolate, finishing slightly bitter from the coffee and the oats. Medium bodied, it has a creamy texture and a smooth mouthfeel with dominant chocolate and roasted coffee notes. Soft carbonation and a warming alcohol finish.
The creaminess of the breakfast stout makes this beer a mouthful. It is very smooth and easy to drink, but watch out -- it's ONLY 8.3%, but it will sneak up on you before you notice it.
