Review - Matt Brewing Company's Saranac Pumpkin Ale
"In celebration of the fall harvest. Here's an autumn favorite that's as enjoyable as pumpkin pie. This hearty ale is brewed with cinnamon, allspice, cloves and vanilla. Look for a full body and amber color. We're sure you'll enjoy this special brew." -- Matt Brewing Company
This one pours with a medium caramel color topped off by a good-sized nice off-white frothy head. The body is still, fair lacing clings to our glasses, there is moderate carbonation, just enough to support the head, and the head eventually clears up to a white color. The aroma is of canned pumpkin puree, along with cinammon and nutmeg being carried through a buttery scent. First taste reveals some spices with a delicate sweetness, and as it moves toward the finish, we get a light bitterness that has an undefined character. Mouthfeel is dry with an oily film that coats, and active carbonation sizzles on the tongue. The taste fades away towards the finish, leaving a less than stellar impression at the end.
