Review - Portsmouth Brewery's Biere de Garde

"This typical French “farm-house” ale is big in fruity flavors, like apples and cherries, & balanced by a kiss of hops." -- Portsmouth Brewery

Pours a medium golden color that settles a darker, hazy amber color crowned by a small, quickly diminishing fizzy head. The color of this beer reflects beautifully around the glass, with a very inviting appearance that looks like fresh apple cider. Backing that up, the nose is filled with a large dose of fresh green apples. The first taste is a syrupy sweet, but changes to a nice bittersweet finish. Light bodied, drinking this is akin to taking a bite out of an apple, leaving us chalky with a sweet taste, accompanied by soft carbonation.
