Review - Sebago Brewing Company's Lake Trout Stout
"Lake Trout Stout is Midnight black with a thick and creamy head. It is a full body stout brewed with oatmeal and plenty of hops to balance the roasted barley. Our stout is an experience. It tastes the same way it looks dark and rich. You will perceive it as thick and chewy and our Lake Trout stout delivers. It is named after the famous deep water Sebago Lake Togue or Lake Trout which inhabit the depths of Maine's deepest lake." -- Sebago Brewing
In addition to the Hefeweizen that Mark gifted to us, we also received two bottles of this Lake Trout Stout. Into tulip glasses, it pours a dark chocolate brown with a magnificent, medium brown frothy head. Good retention, fully diminishing. Opaque body with a deep black tone. Aroma is of baking chocolate and dark roasted malts, combining to provide a very rich, uncomplicated nose. Initial taste is overwhelmingly smoky, with a bitter chocolate taste that smooths out to a light bitter finish. Burnt malts present on the mouth. Light to medium bodied, it has a dry texture with soft carbonation.
