Review - New Belgium Brewing Company - 1554 Enlightened Black Ale
"The beer is fermented at relatively high temperatures using a European lager yeast that imparts a refreshing, zesty acidity. Based on a 16th century Belgian recipe." -- New Belgium Brewing Company
Pours a dark reddish brown body with a frothy, tan colored head with good lacing. Mostly diminishing. Aroma is of burnt malts with notes of charcoal. Initial taste is of charcoal, moving to a light sweet finish. Light to medium bodied, it has a light, oily texture with soft carbonation.
