Review - Mercury Brewing's Z Street Mocha Java Stout

"This full bodied beer begins with a traditional oatmeal stout recipe. We then add a rich blend of coffee in the kettle and finish it with a generous helping of cocoa." -- Mercury Brewing

We had a ton of comments on this beer as we drank it with our guest reviewers. Mouth-watering initial taste, dark chocolate taste, great dessert beer, smells like a coffee filter after you've brewed a pot. Long story short, (almost) all of us loved it. The Mocha Java Stout pours a dark black color with a full, light brown frothy head. Good residue on the glass that lasts and lasts. Body clarity was non-existent, as this is a muddy looking stout. Again, the aroma is strong with a spent coffee filter scent that completely overwhelms any other notes. Initial taste is bitter, with characteristics of dark baking chocolate, that mellows out at the finish with more of a milk chocolate taste with smooth carbonation. According to BB, the mouth-watering continues all the way through the finish. This was not Sean's favorite beer.
