Review - Mercury Brewing's Ipswich Winter Ale
"This special recipe has a complex hop character with ample malt flavor for balance. Enjoy our Winter Ale with good friends and good food." -- Mercury Brewing
The Winter Ale has been in the queue for a while. Rather, it has been sitting in my basement for a while, and I finally brought it up and put it in the queue. It pours a medium brown color with a large, creamy light-brown head. Good lacing trails a mostly lasting head. Murky, cloudy body. Aroma is of moderate light bread malts. Initial taste is lightly sweet, turning to a light bitter finish with average life. Light to medium on the mouth, Ian found it to be oily while Sean found it to be watery. Flat carbonation.
Reviewer's notes: "Pours cloudy light brown, settles dark amber/light brown, doesn't smell bad, but doesn't wow us, burnt malt taste but thin and watery, the finish flavor has a distinct bitterness"
