Review - Mercury Brewing's Ipswich Ale Oatmeal Stout
"Our award-winning stout is rich and malty with hints of chocolate and coffee. It’s what espresso would be if it had the gumption to be beer. Makes a great dessert...or meal." -- Mercury Brewing
This was a weird experience. I went to pop the bottle cap off the bottle, and instead of just the cap, the top of the bottle came off with it. We ended up opening and new one and testing from that but, in the interest of not wasting beer, we filtered the broken one through a coffee filter into a glass. The Oatmeal Stout pours a beautiful medium black with a small light-brown head. Muddy body. Aroma is of light malt with hints of bread, specifically marble rye. Initial taste is both sweet and bitter, finishing sweet. Medium oily feel on the mouth with soft carbonation and a somewhat chalky feel.
