Titan

Review - Great Divide Brewing Company's Titan IPA

"Great Divide brews Titan IPA for hop disciples -- independent beer drinkers seeking out robust, flavorful beers characterized by their abundance of hops, flavor, aroma and bitterness. As a big aggressively-hopped India Pale Ale, Titan IPA fills this bill -- beginning with piney hop aromas and citrus hop flavors, and finishing with a rich, malty sweetness that is carefully balanced with crisp hop bitterness. 65 International Bittering Units (IBUs)." -- Great Divide Brewing Co.

The Titan IPA pours a cloudy dark yellow and settles into a light amber body. The large off-white frothy head with fair lacing accompanied the clear body. The mostly lasting head stayed around for a while saying hello. The nose detected a strong malt presence with hints of soapy yeast and alcohol. On a second take, the nose also detected a harsh hop presence that was overwhelming, but in a good way. Initially light sweet evolving into moderately bitter taste for a long duration. It was well balanced. The presence of alcohol was strong and you could easily tell that this would sneak up on you. Softly carbonated and medium in body, it left an oily film on the palate.

We appreciated that it was balanced and weren't expecting it after not being as pleased by the nose. This is a very powerful IPA.
