Hot Shot

Review - Great Divide Brewing Company's Hot Shot ESB

"HotShot ESB is an easy-drinking and remarkably smooth Extra Special Bitter, brewed in the classic-English style. More assertively hopped than ordinary bitters, light copper-colored HotShot showcases clean hop flavors, balanced by its slightly fruity nose and light-caramel malt character." -- Great Divide Brewing Co.

The HotShot pours more head than beer. It was very difficult to determine the initial color, but settled into a medium amber body. The hazy body was accompanied by an exploding white frothy head. We had to put this review on hold until the head diminished and allowed us to complete the pour. The nose detected a malty bread presence with hints of apricot. The aroma was pleasant and inviting. Initially light better was followed by a light sweet taste for a average duration. The malty taste of the Hot Shot had a very weak hop presence. It was medium in body, with soft carbonation and an oily texture on the palate.

Comments: “It's very different drinking beers from out west. They don't balance their beers as much....” - Ian. The aroma was fantastic, but Amber found the flavor to be a little disappointing. It was smooth, but felt a little watery to her.
