The race is coming and I’m part of it.  This saturday Amber and I will be running/jogging in the Harpoon 5-Miler.  We are pretty excited!!

2,000 Runners to Race in Boston’s Annual Harpoon 5-Miler

The 8th Annual Road Race to Benefit The Angel Fund and ALS Research Reaches Fundraising Milestone

Boston, MA (June 2, 2009) – This Saturday, June 6^th, 2,000 runners will compete at the 8^th Annual Harpoon 5-Miler, a road race to benefit The Angel Fund and ALS Research.  This year marks a major milestone for the race as the total donation made to the Angel Fund, including previous years’ donations, will exceed the $200,000 mark. 

The Harpoon 5-Miler race number has become one of the toughest tickets in town.  The field of 2,000 runners sold out in less than 20 minutes.  The racecourse includes a scenic run along the water and beautiful views of both Boston Harbor and the city’s skyline.  Of course, the fresh beer waiting at the finish line doesn’t hurt the pace either!

In 2008 the Harpoon 5-Miler, which begins and ends at the Harpoon Brewery in Boston’s Seaport District, raised approximately $60,000 for the Angel Fund and ALS Research.  This year included, the race has raised more than $200,000 for the cause. ALS, commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, is a fatal neurodegenerative disease characterized by muscle weakness and a progressive wasting and paralysis of the muscles.  This cause holds special significance for the brewery as Harpoon lost Gordon Heald, a founding investor, to ALS in 1997.

The race will be followed by a post-race party under the tents of Harpoon Summer Session, a two-day celebration of live music and local beer.  Runners are invited to celebrate the completion of the race with Harpoon beers, Harpoon Draft Sodas, and food provided by a local restaurant.
