CBC Birthday Celebration

Posted by: Sean-o on Monday, April 21st, 2008

Hey There,

It’s almost time to celebrate CBC’s Birthday!!!

We’re turning 19 this year, and although this gets tougher and tougher each year, Brewmaster Will Meyers is gonna dig deep into the Top Secret CBC Beer Vaults and pull out—

Nineteen Years Nineteen Beers!

Of course Brian in the Kitchen is also doing nineteen dinner specials for the evening but that doesn’t rhyme with ‘years’.

So, let’s just call it Nineteen for Nineteen.

Now, you know by now that we’re always looking for a reason to drink more beer, but this year we’ve really got a lot to celebrate.

For one thing we’re kind of celebrating two anniversaries this year. CBC is of course turning 19. Owner Phil Bannatyne founded CBC (The oldest craft-brewery in the greater Boston area) in late 1988 and after 6 months of personally piecing together the restaurant, kitchen and brewery with his bare hands (I’m told he was literally by himself for the first 4 months painting, cleaning, fixing, building etc.), he opened the CBC, officially, on the first Friday of May, 1989.

(I’m not gonna tell you the part about how CBC actually opened a month earlier on April Fools Day with no beer to serve because Phil would get very angry at me if I told you about that)

But there’s another anniversary this year. Brewmaster Will Meyers is celebrating his 15th year with the company. He started brewing at CBC in 1993 under the tutelage of the original CBC brew crew Darryl Goss and Phil Bannatyne. So he’s given 15 years of his life to CBC and craft beer.  (That You’ll Never Get Back, Will!!! )

So I hope you’ll join us to celebrate with these two Craft-Brewery Pioneers.

To be honest, I don’t know much about the beer or food yet. These creative types in the Kitchen and Brewery always like to do things on the fly. I can tell you that there will be a s##t-load of beer. In fact our biggest problem this year is deciding what NOT to serve. (Too bad we’re not turning 24)

I’ll be getting together with Will soon to discuss/arm wrestle over what beers to include and what beers we will have to leave out.

Please feel free to send us your opinions. If there is one beer that you absolutely must see on the beer menu that night, let me know.

As soon as I find out more info I’ll let you know.
Cheers,
Chris

“What does Kazakhstan and the CBC anniversary party have in common” (from Chris Punis, General Manager)

Hey there,

I forgot to tell you the other reason for celebrating.

If you’ve been to CBC lately you may have noticed a fence, pile of dirt, steel beams and scraps of wood.

What’s that all about? Well we’re expanding our
Brewery! It’s slated to be completed in time for theanniversary party. Keep your fingers crossed for us.

It’s been quite an ordeal.

This expansion process has been…how should I say it?

A pain in the a##! This process began over a year and a half ago. Due to uncontrollable “external forces” we’re finally coming down the home stretch.

First of all, due to the manufacturer’s error, our tanks were shipped to Kazakhstan! (I’m not making this up.)

They then had to be fabricated again and shipped to the US!

Now we’ve got two installed, and three more sitting in storage waiting for the construction to be finish. Phil had to battle for the permits and then deal with ‘contractor issues’.

Finally, we are almost there. Only a year behind schedule!!!

I tried to get Phil to do a ceremonious ribbon cutting but he declined. He said he would be too busy that night trying to get through all 19 beers.
(I think he made it through 17 out of 18 last year)

New tanks translate directly into more beer for you.

We should have a nice big fat juicy specials board for you year round.

Speaking of nice big fat juicy specials boards, I still haven’t gotten a final beer menu, but don’t worry I didn’t forget.

Like I said, we will almost defiantly have Red God IPA. And we will have Hefeweizen, Big Man Ale, Bannatyne’s Scotch Ale, Blunderbuss Barleywine, Bitchin’ Bitter and Blunderbuss Barleywine.

It’s getting close now, but you might still have time to push Will one way or the other. Let us know what beers you MUST have and we’ll do our best to oblige. Shoot me an email and I’ll talk to Will.

I swear I’ll have the complete menu for you soon.

Cheers,
Chris

Beer Menu (From Chris Punis, General Manager)

Hi there,
Ok, I’ve got the beer menu for you. We couldn’t fit ‘em all in but we did our best to include the favorites. We’re only turning 19 after all.

And our bar is only so big. Besides nobody can drink 19 beers.

I know I said Phil is gonna try to get through all 19 but that’s different. He owns the joint.

(I’m just gonna throw him on top of the grain sacks at the end of the night. They’re more comfortable than they look)

There are a few on tap for Friday that may or may not kick that night.

If they kick we’ve got a different brew ready to go, so technically we will have 24 beers :-) These are the ones with a ‘*’ next to them
