Review - Rogue Ales's Frog Rye IPA
"A medium reddish brown beer with lots of Amarillo hop aroma." -- Issaquah Brewhouse
Pours a light to medium amber color producing a healthy white fizzy head with fairly decent retention. Body is slightly hazy with thin wispy lacing. Aroma is of floral and citrus hops of medium intensity and a warming alcohol presence. Moderately malty with some light bread malts. Initial taste is slightly bitter but quickly ramps up to a stronger bitter end with some strong rye notes. Some grainy hop bitterness at the finish as well. Medium bodied, it has a creamy texture and soft carbonation with strong bitterness up front, leaving an oily film behind with a slightly sour tinge before the soft bitter finish.
Very interesting hop profile. The rye adds an interesting malt flavor and balances out the hops. Palate is left great.
